BRIEF: Youth mental health training in Wood County

May 15--Wood County Educational Service Center is hosting a youth mental health event in response to the popular and controversial Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, which depicts teen suicide. Set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 31,the eight-hour class is designed for parents, teachers, or others who work with youths to learn how to identify the signs and symptoms of mental illness in young people ages 12-18.

The class will cover topics such as anxiety, depression, and substance abuse. It will also discuss how to respond to crisis situations, self-injury, and suicidal thoughts.

The program, at 1867 N. Research Drive, Bowling Green, is free but the class is capped at 30 participants. Registration is required.
