Mental Health Association in Indian River County wins major award from United Way

Stuart News - 12/25/2017

The Mental Health Association in Indian River County recently received an award at the annual United Way Community Leaders Breakfast at Oak Harbor Club of Vero Beach.

The breakfast was to recognize those in the community doing exceptional things to advance the common good.

Dr. Robert Brugnoli, executive director of the Mental Health Association of Indian River County, was presented with the United Way Agency Excellence Award, along with association board member Ross Cotherman.

The Agency Excellence Award is presented to an agency that demonstrates excellence in achieving measurable results and has made an impact on the community through its reach and vision. This award recognizes a funded partner of the United Way of Indian River County, who has demonstrated excellence in the following three areas: programmatic and administrative excellence, community collaboration and outreach, and Unity Way support.

As Jeff Smith, United Way board chair-elect delivered the award, he said, "The agency receiving the 2017 award has made a tremendous impact on this community, especially in the last five years. It provides a tremendous and much-needed service to this community by an impressive professional staff, a strong and effective board, and outstanding leadership. This agency is a valued partner for United Way, takes an active role in our Health Advisory Group, and to give it away, offers a full range of mental health services on a sliding fee scale."

The Mental Health Association in Indian River County Walk-In Center, 820 37th Place in Vero Beach, offers individuals experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition, free mental health screening, crisis intervention services, and information and/or referral about how to address their mental health issues.

The center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. Psychotherapy, group therapy, case management, and psychiatry services also are available for clients seeking ongoing mental health services on an appointment basis at the center.
