Sounds of the House – Lite is an independent living and personal skills tutorial program designed for use by parents or teachers working with children with developmental disabilities or autism. This application (or app) allows a parent or teacher to use an Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad or Android device to teach a child to recognize the sounds of various household appliances such as a washing machine, vacuum cleaner, toaster, coffeemaker, and blender. The app starts with a training session where the appliances’ names and pictures along with corresponding sounds are shown one by one on the screen. Next, pictures of two appliances are displayed together on the screen, and the child is asked to select the correct picture for the sound being played. A sound is played as a token reward for each correct response. After the child answers the final question, a score screen appears. The app is a part of the Shanesh COLORS app series designed for kids on the autism spectrum. It is based on the discrete trial part of ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis). Available languages include English, Chinese, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish. COMPATIBILITY: For use with an Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, or Android device. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Apple iOS 4.0 or later; Android 2.2 or later.
