Step One: Gather materials.
- A flattened cardboard box
- Colored pencils
Step Two: Discuss the contents of a town to map out. Features such as possibly a playground, roads, trees, parks and a zoo to place on the map.
Step Three: Have the child explore their imagination as the parent draws the map of a town with a pencil. The child can tell the parent what to draw and where to place it. For instance, the child can say that they want to place the playground near their homes so that it is easy for children to access.
Step Four: The child colors the map with all of their utensils.
