AudiSee is a communication aid for the deaf or people who are hard of hearing. This system enables students with deafness or who are hard of hearing to read their teacher's lips, regardless of the teacher's movements or the language of instruction. It also allows these students to maximize the use of their residual hearing by using their current FM systems. The system incorporates a lightweight, adjustable headset worn by the teacher that is equipped with a miniature camera and a microphone attached to a support arm placed in front of the teacher's face. The wireless transmitter broadcasts the image of the teacher to a monitor placed on the student's desk or to a larger monitor placed appropriately in the classroom. The transmitter includes an eleastic waist belt. The student's unit can receive and broadcast the image and the voice of the teacher onto three types of screens: The AudiSee monitor-receiver; a laptop or desktop computer (using the AudiSee external receiver); or a television set (using the AudiSee external receiver). The included monitor-receiver comprises a receiver and monitor integrated in a single unit equipped with a flat, portable screen. The unit is discreet and requires little space on the student's desk. The built-in audio receiver can serve as a backup system for students having temporary problems with a separate FM system. POWER: The headset uses a rechargeable battery for up to eight hours of use. A battery charger is included. The monitor-receiver uses two rechargeable batteries, each lasting about 3 hours per charge, or by an alternating current (AC) adapter. DIMENSIONS: The screen on the monitor-receiver is 5.5 inches (14 centimeters).
