Medpage is a seizure monitor designed to alert caregivers to the onset of a seizure during sleep in people with seizures. Both models use a sensor placed under the mattress of the bed. When a tonic/clonic (grand mal) seizure occurs, the resulting limb movements are detected by the sensor. An additional sensor monitors oral sounds. Each sensor has an adjustable sensitivity level. A delay control can be adjusted from five to fifteen seconds to prevent the monitor from responding to normal movements during sleep. Both systems utilize a detector console and an alarm receiver. The console features LED movement detection lights and a radio transmitter. The remote alarm receiver features a radio address to prevent interference from other radio-controlled equipment and a choice of alert methods. Model MP2 offers the additional flexibility of integration capability with other equipment such as a fall alarm or an automatic telephone dialer. POWER: The console uses an AC/DC adapter and the remote alarm receiver uses batteries. Battery life is approximately three months and the unit includes a low-battery alarm. OPTIONS: A four-channel receiver allows up to four alarms to be connected to a single unit.
