SoundAdvice, model XA2, is a voice input and output web browser designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This program enables the user to interact with a personal computer (PC) without touching the keyboard. It follows natural voice commands, and responds to questions in a user-selected voice, using VoiceBox Voice Information Retrieval Software to to obtain answers to questions on hundreds of topics, including weather, stock quotes, and world news. The software can also be used to play MP3's, or connect to streaming audio stations. It can supply jokes, recipes, sports scores, statistics, trivia, spelling assistance, definitions, encyclopedia entries, and information on low vision services and solutions. The user can access media files on the PC, and listen to music while searching or browsing. E-mail can be read through hands-free voice access to Microsoft Outlook. The program works with multiple input devices, including desktop microphones and wireless headsets with microphone, and the keyboard for silent (non-voice) operation.
