Swap and Fix Card Games are reading and spelling skills card games designed for use by students with learning disabilities. These games are suitable for two to four players. There are 28 different Swap games in four sets and seven different Fix games in one set. Each game consists of a pack of 42 word cards, eight Swap or Fix cards, and a word list. There are three, four, five, or six suits (word families or prefix/suffix types) in each pack of cards. The cards are colorful but uncluttered and each suit, or letter string, is a different color. These reading and spelling card games can be played with any helping adult or by a group of students in the classroom. When played with a teacher, the games are excellent for introducing and reinforcing word families and spelling rules. The games are designed to be flexible and the words are carefully selected so that either whole families or individual words can be withdrawn without spoiling the game. The games can thus be tailored to the needs of students. The rules are printed on the back of every game box. Players try to place a card of a matching suit on top of the card placed by the previous player, the objective being to play all cards. To reinforce learning, the player must say the word as it is played or name the letter string when changing suit. The Swap and Fix cards allow players to change the suit. To win, players must be able to read the words and recognize to which word family/prefix/suffix group they belong. The simple rule structure of these games allows less able players to rely purely upon chance, which proviees a leveling factor, while more able players can invent tactical game plans. OPTIONS: Games can be purchased individually or in sets.
