Veterans, active military offered free train rides

Arkansas and Missouri Railroad will honor veterans and active military personnel with free train rides on Saturday and Sunday during the second annual Junk Festival in downtown Van Buren.
A&M trains will leave the Van Buren depot at 11 a.m. both days. The ride to Winslow and return trip will take about three hours.
Spouses of veterans and active military personnel will ride at half-price.
Junk Fest hours will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 26, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 27.
Admission to Junk Fest, organized by The Old Town Merchants Association, is free.
Junk Fest will feature antique, rustic and vintage-style merchandise, live music and food trucks on Main Street starting at Third Street to Eighth Street. Local shops also will be open.
County music legend Gene Watson will perform at the King Opera House at 7 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission will be $39 with proceeds benefiting the Bly Thomas Mental Health Counseling Organization.
Ken Robison, Downtown Junk Fest chairman, said the festival will include close to 100 vendors and also will feature entertainment and food.
Featured entertainment on Stage 9 includes live local acts all weekend such as Christian artist Brittany Morse, Crawford County native band "Backroads" and favorite classic rock cover band "The Remnant." Seating will be provided as well for those wanting to take a break and sit and enjoy the music. Stage 9 is located inside Blanche Moore Memorial Park on Main Street.
Freedom Park will host an expanded Farmers Market with longer hours and opening of the Splash Pad for the beginning of the summer.
