--- "DO IT YOURSELF" ENTRY ------- PURPOSE: Clutch assembly for operators who require a hand operated clutch. Custom modification for a John Deere 8430 tractor. A lever constructed of 1 and 1/4 inch by 1/4 inch flat steel is attached to a fixed point on the side of the steering console. As the lever is pulled toward the operator, a roller bearing mounted on the end of the lever rolls along the lower shank of the clutch pedal, disengaging the clutch. The roller is used to reduce the effort required to manually operate the clutch by reducing friction as the lever travels up the shank. Because the lever assembly pivots around a fixed point, it gives the operator a better "feel" for the clutch than would be the case if the lever were attached directly to the pedal shank. A small stop is installed to prevent the lever from falling out of the operator's reach. This modification does not interfere with operating the clutch pedal by foot. SKILLS REQUIRED: Metalworking.
