The ReJoy is a powered wheelchair controller designed to enable powered wheelchairs to be controlled with a joystick positioned in the front of the seat at the midline rather than on the right or left armrest. The ReJoy utilizes a Center Drive System that consists of mounting hardware and a socket that can be mounted in three positions: in front of the seat on the center line; on the side beneath either armrest; or in the back of the wheelchair. When mounted on the side, the mast with the controller can be placed there to facilitate transfers or better access to desks and tables. The wheelchair can be moved short distances while the mast is in a side socket. When a socket is mounted on the rear of the chair, the controller can be used by an attendant to control the wheelchair. Multiple sockets can be installed on the same wheelchair. When positioned in front, the socket is at the same level of the seat so it will not impede transfers. The mast is placed in the socket so that the joystick is just in front of the user on the center line of the chair. The socket and the mast have spring-loaded drop-in connections, and they have contacts made of gold so that they are resistant to corrosion and humidity. The unit controls the steering and speed of the wheelchair. Pressure-relieving gel armpads on either side of the joystick enable more natural arm positioning.
