The i.d. mate Quest is a voice output bar code reader designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This portable talking bar code scanner provides voice identification of an item by scanning the item's bar code or Universal Product Code (UPC) label. It has a cyclone scanner that can read bar codes without exact positioning. As the user rotates the scanner around the product, it identifies the product and reads the product description aloud in a natural-sounding, synthesized voice. It comes with a database of nearly three million items with a wide variety of product descriptions. Users can add items to the database and record information about the new items or about existing products. Unlimited free database updates are offered by the manufacturer. The user can also record, play, erase, and organize messages in memo mode. There also is a "spell mode" function that provides spelling of names or information. Voice output pitch and speed are adjustable. The i.d. mate Quest's Wi-Fi connectivity and built-in camera offer extended ways for the user to gain information about and connect with their environment. It also features access to Google’s online database, online price check for items, currency identification, Skype video conferencing, international date and time zones, instant software and firmware updates, and an MP3 player. The unit has volume control and an earphone and microphone jack. This small, lightweight handheld unit comes with an adjustable around-the-neck lanyard; carrying case with strap; 100 pre-printed bar code labels; a 8 gigabyte (GB) memory card; and a user's guide on CD. OPTIONS: Additional bar code labels (tag, sticker, iron-on, dishwasher-safe), bar coded playing cards, nano router, headphones, memory cards, and extended warranties are available. POWER: Uses four high-capacity lithium ion batteries or alternating current/direct current (AC/DC) power adapter (included). DIMENSIONS (LxW): 7 x 3 inches. WEIGHT: 7 ounces. WARRANTY: One year.
