The Powerhouse Home is an environmental control system designed for use by individuals with spinal cord injury, severe physical disabilities, or upper extremity disabilities. This system enables the user to control an unlimited number of lights, appliances, heating and cooling systems, infrared devices (home entertainment components), electric beds, home security systems, X10 devices, and countless other devices by voice command. One device or groups of devices can be controlled with a single command. An unlimited number of user-specified voice commands can be created on the system. It also offers remote web access for home control, if desired. No voice training is required as the sytem is speaker independent. The system also offers the ability to use the included wireless telephone headset as a microphone for your computer and voice recognition software, such as Scansoft’s Dragon Naturally Speaking or IBM’s Via Voice (not included; see entries). The system also includes all of the telephone functionality of SAJE Technology’s COMMUNICATOR BASIC (see entry). Included is an adapter that allows any ability switch (i.e. head switch, sip/puff switch, chin activated switch, etc.) to be connected for "wake up" activation of the system. The package includes the COMMUNICATOR wireless headset, the base station, and the POWERHOUSE HOME CONTROL UNIT which handles all voice dialing commands, X10/Infrared, and voice commands. POWER: The headset uses rechargeable two- to three-hour batteries (two batteries included). An optional extended-life battery for up to eight hours of use between charges is available.
