The PowerGrip Assisted Grasp Orthosis is a powered prehension orthosis designed for use by individuals with grasping, neurological, or upper extremity disabilities, spinal cord injury (SCI), stroke, cerebral palsy (CP), multiple sclerosis (MS), or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). This electric powered wrist-hand orthosis can provide a user with limited wrist extension strength the ability to pick up, grasp, hold, and manipulate objects. This orthosis can be used for eating, shaving, brushing teeth, combing hair, opening a door, and other activities of daily living. Components include a Becker or Jaeco hand splint custom fabricated to the user's hand measurements or mold; a GimpGear PowerGrip orthotic controller; Assisted Grasp power actuator; GimpGear dual eyebrow, sip & puff, dual foot, or EMG muscle switch or open/close pushbutton with auditory feedback; control wires, actuator jack, and mounting hardware; and user manuals. POWER: Uses 12-volt lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack with an alternating current (AC) charger or optional GimpGear Wheelchair Charging Socket power adapter.
