Formant Booster

Formant Booster is a speech clarification program designed for use with digital hearing aids. This software focuses on recovering speech contrast that is lost through changes in the voice's dynamic range which result in spectral smearing that degrades the intelligibility of speech. The program combines two techniques restore the sharpness to smeared formants, which are frequency regions that determine the quality of a sound. First, it uses signal statistics to detect and analyze voiced speech as a function of time and frequency. Second, Formant Booster modifies the relevant voiced speech by boosting the spectral peaks of its formants, in order to enhance speech intelligibility.
