The PenFriend Audio Labeller, model DL76, is a voice output labeling sysem designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. The unit consists of self-afhesive labels embedded with unique identifying codes, and a pen-shaped, pocket-sized recorder/scanner with a built-in speaker. The user attaches one of the coded self-adhesive labels to an item such as a can of food or a household object, then records a message on the recorder/scanner. The message is played back when the scanner is held over the label. The pen has up to 70 hours of recording time available; there is no limit to the length of individual messages, and MP3 files can be downloaded to the unit, including books and music. The recorder unit can also be used as a portable notetaker by recording messages and placing the corresponding labels in a small notebook to keep track of them. The system comes with 127 labels in a mix of sizes and shapes, a USB cable, and a neck lanyard. OPTIONS: Additional labels with new unique codes (Pack A, model DL77, or Pack B, model DL78); directional microphone for recording messages (model DL76M). POWER: Uses two triple-A batteries (included).
