Speak A Need, model 1254, is a direct selection communicator designed for use by individuals with speech or communication disabilities. Designed to be simple and fast to program and use, this five-level communicator allows the recording of five different categories of needs such as food, bathing, and health needs. Once a category is chosen, pushing the red button sequences through a list of up to 10 items within that category. For example, on the food level, the list could include coffee, milk, juice, sandwich, etc. Once an item is chosen, pushing the yellow button expresses in detail the specific need (one specific need per item). For example, the user chooses coffee from the category food with the red button and then presses the yellow button which might say "I would like coffee with milk and sugar." The device can also be accessed with external switches. POWER: Uses 4 triple-A batteries. DIMENSIONS (HxWxD): 4 x 8.5 x 4.5.
