Voice is an iPhone application that reads printed text aloud to individuals with visual impairments or dyslexia. When the user takes a picture of printed material using the smartphone’s built-in camera, Voice will use optical character recognition technology to detect the words and read them aloud. Designed for iOS 8, this interface will allow users to listen to books, documents, magazines and newspapers in a matter of seconds. Because it operates on book mode, Voice processes the next image as it reads the initial one, so it will read one page after the other without using additional processing time. Voice also offers a field of view report indicating when all 4 corners of the document are visible; auto alignment and rotation; brightness and contrast equalization; vertical and horizontal column detection and smart column-based reading; and three different speaking rates. It is also fully compatible with VoiceOver. Voice requires internet connection to work and cannot decipher handwritten text.
