The Sensory Writing Bag can be used to encourage early or beginning writers with fine motor disabilities or children with neurological disabilities who would benefit from sensory interaction and integration to make attempts at making marks, forming letters or numbers. They can also be used many times over, and are simple and inexpensive. The sensory writing bags can help build a child’s confidence and writing skills, and can help the child learn how to write a their name independently, draw shapes, or numbers.

Technical Specifications: 

Step 1: Add the following to a large zip lock bag:

  • Shaving cream
    • (the more shaving cream one uses, the larger the zip lock bag will need to be)
    • Use 2 cups shaving cream for 30 centimeter x 20 centimeter bags
  • 2 tablespoons food coloring
  • Q-tip

Step 2: Seal the zip lock bag completely.

Step 3: Have the child very carefully start massaging the bag to spread the color so it mixes with the shaving cream.

Step 4: Start writing.
