Autism and PDD Reasoning and Problem Solving Lite

Autism and PDD Reasoning and Problem Solving Lite is designed to develop problem solving and reasoning skills for children and young adults with autism, PPD and speech and language disorders. The app is based on the Buddy Bear book series, which uses simple, predictable language, and story-based learning to teach a variety of concepts.

The app has five stories that present different concepts: solving a problem, cause and effect, predicting, sequencing, and comparing. When one concept button is touched, a narrator begins to read a story. The words are written across the bottom of the page, and pictures illustrating the sentence are on the page. After one sentence is read, a question is asked of the child. Three answer choices are given along one side of the page. The child must touch the correct answer choice. When the correct answer is chosen, the picture animates and the correct answer is given in a complete sentence. If the child chooses an incorrect answer, the narrator says, “oops, try again” and the child must chose another answer until the correct one is chosen.
