Create a play map using a cardboard box is a do it yourself activity for children with an imagination and fine motor disabilities to do. The parent uses a recycled cardboard box with this activity.

Technical Specifications: 

Step One: Gather materials.

  • A flattened cardboard box
  • Markers
  • Crayons
  • Pencils
  • Colored pencils

Step Two: Discuss the contents of a town to map out. Features such as possibly a playground, roads, trees, parks and a zoo to place on the map.

Step Three: Have the child explore their imagination as the parent draws the map of a town with a pencil. The child can tell the parent what to draw and where to place it. For instance, the child can say that they want to place the playground near their homes so that it is easy for children to access.

Step Four: The child colors the map with all of their utensils.
