Instant Immersion American Sign Language is a sign language training CD-ROM designed for use by individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. This training CD-ROM uses the immersion method to teach beginners how to sign. It provides a foundation in basic principles before moving on to advanced skills. Users can view translations of manually typed words or phrases; find definitions or view corresponding signs in an English-ASL dictionary; or mouse-click objects to review their signs and receive audio and video feedback. The CD-ROM also includes Signlink, a multimedia dictionary, tutorial, and reference source on American deaf culture and signing, that includes over 1,000 high-quality video clips for more than 2,300 English meanings. Lessons include the fundamentals of hand shape, palm orientation, location, movement, non-manual behavior such as facial expressions, fingerspelling, numbers, time concepts, pronouns, and sign linguistics.
