Middletown man receives prestigious Pa. Veterans Service Award

Patriot-News - 4/1/2021

Navy veteran Dominic D. DiFrancesco of Middletown on Wednesday was awarded the Pennsylvania Veterans Service Award from the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA). Given at the direction of the governor, the award honors an individual for outstanding meritorious support to Pennsylvania veterans.

DiFrancesco has committed his life to advocating for veterans since he first joined the American Legion nearly 70 years ago, a press release said. He has served in just about every appointed and elected position within the American Legion, including as its national commander from 1991-92.

“Leaders like Dominic who served our nation in uniform and continue to serve post-military are invaluable assets to the veteran community,” Maj. Gen. Mark Schindler, Pennsylvania’s acting adjutant general and acting head of the DMVA, said in the press release. “Because of his lifetime commitment to the American Legion, Pennsylvania’s veterans will continue to benefit from having a strong advocate looking after their interests.”

The award citation specifically notes that: “DiFrancesco is a natural leader, a rare breed of men who have the ability to focus on a goal and to influence others to not only follow, but champion the cause…As he moved through the leadership ranks of the American Legion, he touched many people. His leadership style is such he could share a vision, instill interest, inspire action, and deliver excellence in every initiative he became involved with.”
