Redlands drive-thru event to honor Vietnam War veterans with lapel pins

Redlands Daily Facts - 4/17/2021

Apr. 16—The Arrowhead Valley Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution is seeking Vietnam War veterans to honor at a drive-thru event on Saturday, April 17, in Redlands.

The group is partnering with the Department of Defense, the Redlands Veterans Committee and Redlands Elks Lodge 583 to salute veterans "who were not given the recognition deserved upon returning home from their service," said member Joanne Morse.

The groups are giving away national commemorative lapel pins, which are typically presented to veterans in a ceremony with family and friends in attendance, but the group has modified the event in light of coronavirus safety precautions.

All Vietnam War-era veterans are invited to drive by the Elks Lodge, located at 663 New York St. in Redlands, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to receive a free pin and heartfelt thanks, Morse said.

"We love our veterans," Morse said of the DAR. "They sacrifice a lot for our country. Even in contentious wars, they deserve our support."
