Daily News - 5/1/2021

May 1—Team Depot, The Home Depot's employee volunteer force on Friday, April 30, constructed an outdoor dining area for local veterans at Canoga Park'sVeterans of Foreign Wars Post 2805.

The fix-it-yourself chain's team of volunteers built and painted a fence, added a fire pit, installed umbrellas and assembled patio heaters at the post, which serves more than 400 San Fernando Valley veterans.

All the while, the team abided by Los Angeles County Public Health orders spurred by the pandemic, including wearing masks and staying socially distant during the work.

The project was just one of the ways The Home Depot Foundation is celebrated National Volunteer Month. Employees from stores across the U.S. launched projects that projects=that included gardening and landscaping for community spaces, as well as building specialized relief kits for frontline workers, veterans, people hit by natural disasters and families facing food insecurity.

The Home Depot has a special relationship with veterans, because more than 35,000 of the company's associates have served in the military. The chain's foundation has donated more than $375 million to veterans in need.
