Veterans Breakfast Club hosts first in-person event in Brighton Township since pandemic

Beaver County Times - 7/15/2021

Jul. 15—BRIGHTON TWP. — Veterans Breakfast Club (VBC) held its first in-person event on Wednesday.

The nonprofit creates communities of listening around veterans and their stories, ensuring that their living history is never forgotten. VBC will continue hosting in-person events, at least two each month, for the remainder of the year.

On Wednesday, more than 100 veterans gathered at Two Mile Run Park in Brighton Township. Vets were given the opportunity to listen and share their stories while also engaging with other local veterans.

"Making the shift to virtual events was an incredibly successful transition for us," said Todd DePastino, founder and executive director of VBC. "Our community grew so much during the pandemic, providing a space for more veterans from around the country and world to share their stories and connect with each other. While we will continue to host virtual programs, we are also thrilled to return to in-person events for our local Pittsburgh veterans. All veterans have a story to share, and we are honored to offer a platform, both in-person and online, for our veterans to connect, heal and inspire each other."

Since 2008, VBC has served the local veteran community in the greater Pittsburgh area, hosting weekly local gatherings for veterans. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, VBC transitioned to virtual programming and announced a national expansion of the organization, opening its programs to veterans around the country and world.

In addition to hosting two in-person events per month, VBC will continue hosting weekly virtual programming, including Veterans Breakfast Club, VBC Happy Hour and Greatest Generation Live, as well as the organization's successful podcast on military culture, The Scuttlebutt. These virtual programs take place via Zoom and feature discussion, special guests, weekly themes and more for veterans from all eras and branches.
