Marine Corps veteran wins jackpot in Florida lottery — there’s only one thing he wants

Charlotte Observer - 4/20/2022

After a Marine Corps veteran in Florida won a jackpot in the lottery, he could only think of one item he wanted to buy — something that would only cost a fraction of the amount he won.

Sarasota resident James Musselwhite bought a $5,000,000 LUCK Scratch-Off ticket while he was at the Circle A Food Place on Bahia Vista Street, according to lottery officials.

When he scratched off his ticket, he was looking at a prize of $1 million, lottery officials said.

Musselwhite told lottery officials that he had already traveled the globe during his time in the military. The one item on his wish list could easily fit in his backyard.

“I guess the only thing I really want now is a new golf cart,” he told lottery officials.

Musselwhite decided to cash out his prize in a lump sum of $760,000, according to lottery officials.

The Circle A Food Place that sold the winning ticket will get a $2,000 bonus, lottery officials said.

The odds of winning $1 million in the $5,000,000 LUCK game are 1-in-1,115,670, according to the Florida Lottery.

Sarasota is about 60 miles south of Tampa.
