Douglas County celebrates Veterans Day 2023

Nov. 3—DOUGLAS COUNTY — Groups throughout Douglas County will host events in honor of Veterans Day 2023.

The University of Wisconsin-Superior will host a Veterans Day ceremony and presentation of the Henry Blomberg Excellence in Service Awards on Friday, Nov.10, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Shippar Family Atrium of the Yellowjacket Union.

The ceremony is open to the community and will include the awards presentation. The award is named after Lt. Henry Blomberg, who attended UWS and served in World War I. He was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the second-highest military honor.

The Twin Ports Veterans Expo takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.Nov. 11 in the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjacket Union. Free and open to the public, the event will include information booths; face-to-face veterans benefits assistance; refreshments; information on veteran owned businesses as well as businesses that serve veterans; and offer discounts for veterans; education; and GI Bill information and more.

Solon Springs School will host a Veterans Day Program at 10 a.m.Nov. 10 in the Sandy Slade gym. All veterans are welcome to attend. They can RSVP for the ceremony by calling the school, 715-378-2263 or arrive at 9:30 a.m. the day of the event.
